Yeah, you.
11.16.07 (11:10 am)   [edit]

I can't describe how much I dislike most people I see.

The trappings of technology are like a vise grip.

And they look at me so strangely when I say I don't have a cell phone.

It's a mad world.

It is indeed a mad world. But I have a cell phone as opposed to a land line. And as bad as I hate to admit it, I wouldn't want to be raising teenagers without cellular service. The money I spend pales in comparision to the peace of mind I have.

That's interesting, Shannon. From my perspective, I wouldn't want to be raising teenagers *with* cellular service. Funny that, eh? I imagine there are a lot of other factors involved. Given some of the tales you've told about your boys, I can see that peace of mind is a must have! ;)

I don't have a cell phone and don't want one....I will not be tied to a damn telephone!!! Having one at home is bad enough!!!

Yes, yes the antics of the boys, heh! Actually it was a big help with the girl too, especially when they worked in the evenings, sure made Mom feel better if it were really rainy or foggy out to have my daughter call and let me know exactly what time she was leaving the parking lot. Luckily she made it home each time. And I have very seriously warned each child about the punishment for *ignoring* my calls, I told them all they'd best be unconscious in a ditch somewhere if they don't answer! These days tho we seem to text message more than call. And having 5 of them to keep up with doesn't help.

So, otherwise, how are ya?

I agree with you there. Cell phones are a way for anyone to have access to you at any time. Even if you don't answer it, they are still there, still making noises in your ear, creating expectation.

I'm doing alright, Shannon. Still puttering away on the side of my little mountain, finally nearing the end of my debt, paid off my car, saving for a little travel money. Trying to pass 7th grade (which may prove my undoing).. a year and a half into marriage and it's like we got hitched yesterday, so that's good. *grin*

My cell phone serves as a replacement for "Life Alert". You know, the "I've fallen and I can't get up!" service.

I never wanted a cell phone. No one is so important that I have to talk to them while I'm getting from point A to point B. I need the cell phone now though, in case I actually have to get to point B.

ohhhh 7th grade is a Mother for sure, I've done it 4 times now and don't feel much better equipped--if I HAD To do it again, lol.

Paying off debt is always good! Congrats. And kudos as well for keeping the home fires burning, heh. Can't believe a year and a half has passed so quickly?

Cutter, your use/need for a cell phone probably represents the .0001% of people who actually need one. :\

It *is* mind boggling how quickly time is flying. If I blink, I'll be 70 and wondering where the time went.. heh..

You know, I dislike most people I see too. I always figured I was just a natural-born curmudgeon. ;)

Homo sapiens just isn't a very likeable species, all things considered. I mean, I truly respect all life, including human beings...but I don't have to *like* something to respect it.

No cell phone here either, and although I understand the safety concern in raising teens, it doesn't seem to me that adolescence was particularly more risky before people started talking into their hands.

*giggle* Agreed, MB. People truly convince themselves that the cell phone adds to their lives. I suspect it's a control thing. People who cling to the idea of the cell phone providing some kind of need may also cling to fear of loss of control.. just something I suspect. (No disrespect to Shannon/FinalyFree - we all have our vises).. ;)

Sounds like we share some of that curmudgeonly behavior.. I'd suggest we'd do well together, but that would defeat the point, eh? ;)

Heh. Yes, technology is a thief. Congrats on not having a cell phone, Lovely Lindy. I didn't have a microwave until about year 2000.
Keep your individuality, my dear one.

I don't own a cell phone or a home phone. I also don't believe in credit cards or banks.

But would you own a cell phone or a home phone if you could? Muwah ha haaaa, that's the big moral dilemma. People ask me when I'm going to get another cell phone and when I tell them I never will, they really think I've gone mad. Crazy. I hear you on the banks and credit cards. I've often wondered what it would be like to conduct all my business in cash. I bet I'd have a better handle on my money, pun intended...

actually you do because then you know where every cent is spent. at least i do.
if i could afford a phone of any type..no i wouldnt get one. one it's a waste of money.. two who would call me... and three if i wanna talk to someone i'll just go see them.. unless of course it's d.h.s (having major communication problems with them right now)but then i'd only throw the stupid thing in anger and break it.. so it's best i dont own a phone or a gun..lol
